Augie's son and his wife, founders of Augie's Café, collaborated with Eleanorjan "Ej" Welcome to bring this vision to life, ensuring that Augie's energy and essence would be felt throughout the restaurant.
The atmosphere at Augie's Breakfast Bar reflects Augie's love for joy, rhythm, and connection. It was designed as a welcoming space where guests can gather, share moments, and enjoy exceptional food accompanied by uplifting music.
Augie's Breakfast Bar is more than a restaurant. It is a celebration of food, music, and community. Founded in 2022 by Eleanorjan Green Welcome, a seasoned restaurant owner and manager, the establishment was born from a heartfelt desire to create a gathering place inspired by the flavors and experiences of her youth. Eleanor's vision was simple yet meaningful: offer great cuisine while fostering warmth, familiarity, and connection.
In 2025, Eleanor took full ownership of Augie's Breakfast Bar, strengthening its ties to her family's culinary heritage. This chapter marked the introduction of the distinctive Two Janies Legacy Recipes.
The story of the Two Janies adds a remarkable layer to the restaurant's identity. Eleanor's mother, Janie Lee Green, and Janie Carris Lancaster, the mother of her husband's first wife, both hailed from Cairo, Georgia. Their lives shared an extraordinary connection, including being born under the care of the same midwife, symbolizing a unique generational bond.
Both women possessed an exceptional talent for cooking, preserving recipes rich in tradition and history. Over time, these treasured creations faded into obscurity until Chef Geoff Thomas rediscovered them, bringing their legacy back to life.
Chef Geoff's discovery allowed Augie's Breakfast Bar to introduce what is proudly known as Nu American Southern Cuisine, a culinary approach blending timeless Southern traditions with contemporary influences. Today, the Two Janies Legacy Recipes are thoughtfully prepared by our in house Master Chefs, Chef Penny Brumfield and Chef Dontez Menifee.
